Music Lessons at Grangefield

Instrumental lessons are a great way to not only engage your child in music making but are also proven to improve their confidence, concentration and much research has shown the positive effect of music on English and Maths in particular.

At Grangefield a range of external music lesson providers come into school and provide solo and group tuition before and after school, and during the school day.

Not owning an instrument should not be a barrier to learning to play – instruments can be hired from Gloucestershire music, and children who are receive Free School Meals are entitled to free instrument hire. Rosy Crocker – Flute and Clarinet (Yr3-6), Saxophone (Y6)

Rosy has been teaching woodwind in Gloucestershire primary schools for around 15 years.  She also plays with a group (as woodwind specialist) on Wednesdays at the Cotswold School in term time called North Cotswold Wind Band which has players of a wide range of ages and schools playing at fetes in the summer and Stow on the Wold Christmas Tree Festival.  They play a variety pieces from James Bond to Shrek.

 

Ollie Heath – Violin

Ollie began playing the violin aged four, and went on to study at the Purcell School, Royal Northern College of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and the National Music Conservatoire in Madrid.  He spent twenty years leading The Heath Quartet with whom he toured around the world, playing at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Southbank Centre, Berlin Konzerthaus and Adelaide Arts Festival.  Ollie has collaborated with many leading pop musicians and producers including Damon Albarn, The Who, Sam Smith and Dua Lipa.  He has also been featured on many film soundtracks.

Alongside his playing career, Ollie has developed a love of teaching and has twenty years, experience teaching all levels of violin and chamber music students.  He grew up learning the Suzuki method which has a big influence on his teaching style, but he firmly believes in the uniqueness of each student and responding to the myriad of different learning styles in a spontaneous way.

 

Stephen Lafferty – Piano, Ukulele, Guitar

Stephen plays a wide range of instruments and holds lessons in Piano, Ukulele and Guitar here at Grangefield.

 

Rocksteady – Electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and vocal

Rocksteady is the UK’s leading rock school and we’re proud that their fun, inclusive band lessons take place at our school.  As well as teaching new musical skills through contemporary rock and pop music, Rocksteady have a proven significant, positive impact on wellbeing, confidence and life skills for primary aged children.  Recently, they were awarded ‘Schools Wellbeing Resource of the Year’ at the Education Today awards, for their work inspiring children through music.
